Diaphragm conditioning and adjustment for metabolic need

A conditioning period is needed after implantation in cases with respiratory muscle paralysis (RMP). Diaphragm muscle has weakened (atrofied) soon after the primary trauma or paralysis. In the beginning such muscle can perform work for several minutes only. However, for breathing efforts the diaphragm should work continuously. During the conditioning period the diaphragm is trained to perform normally again. By following hourly training program the conditioning period normally takes place within some weeks.
